I've got a Tip-sy ! Try Ipsy!
Now, I'm not normally one for jumping on the bandwagon of any latest trend. It took me years to get around to Blogging. I was probably the last of family and friends to start Pinning and I had never even heard of "subscription boxes/ bags" until about a year ago.
I was combing through those annoying Facebook ads when I saw my first ad for a subscription service.
Curiosity got the best of me so I decided to "like" the page for the service. Reviews always seemed a hit and miss, so although I continued to "like" daily posts I never pulled the trigger.
A few months back I went through a tough time with some medical issues and had to take some time off from work. It was challenging to keep up with bills etc, and I found myself really looking to others for advice on how to make my dollar stretch. I went without many of my normal "treats". It just seemed frivolous to spend money on anything that wasn't a necessity.
After I returned to work my fantastic Hubby reminded me that it was really time I "treated" myself again. I learned a lot about my stress levels and just how much stress can seriously affect your health, not only mentally, but physically. You could read it in the dark circles under my eyes and the lifeless tone in my face. I could feel it in every step taken with a body that was worn out by illness.
So, I took his advice and did two things. First on the list was signing up for a gym membership ( I'll talk more on that later) ...secondly I took a tip from one of my favorite people and finally checked into a subscription service... Ipsy.
For those of you who live under a rock or in a cave such as I have, Ipsy is an awesome beauty bag service. You can pay monthly (or for the year).
For $10 (monthly) you get a really awesome bag every month with 5 products that are selected for you based on your answers to a beauty/ lifestyle Quiz.
Each month the bag and theme will be different as well as the company/brands being represented.
Some products are sample size and some are full size.
This past month I only received one item in my bag that I would have considered to be a "sample" size.
This brings about a point to a certain gripe that I've noticed with a lot of subscription members...size of product.
It seems as though a good lot of these services send the dreaded "foil-pack" samples which leave a lot to be desired in most minds. For many products a foil pack sample can not hold enough product to truly allow you a good sampling of it's benefits. It also lacks a certain amount of identification with product packaging/branding.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm a sucker for a pretty package...or a thoughtful package...or a vintage package! ;-)
Ipsy has is all sewn up. Cute Bags, great product and additional offers from each month's brands. For example last month the bag came with a discount code to use at many of the Brand's websites .
You'll also find links to purchase the products that you fall in love with as well as helpful videos from Co-founder & You Tube Beauty Guru Michelle Phan .
Michelle is not the only one you'll connect with though, as a member you can create your own favorite "looks" by adding helpful videos you find on the net, or by creating and uploading your own and then connecting great products with the "looks".
I've found it very helpful to reach out to others with questions and seek advice from those experiencing similar issues.
There are still some technical bugs to be worked out. I suggest getting in at the end of a month to make sure you're on track with the next month's bag. It's a popular service so there is a waiting list to subscribe sometimes. Luckily I didn't have to wait. Delivery is also a little slow. They use DHL delivery service, which personally I think is a mistake. Once I received my notification email it took about a week or so before I saw my bag.
All in all you really can't beat it! $10 a month and you get to try 5 products! You can also re-take your beauty quiz if you feel your look, or style has changed.
So- what are you waiting for? Follow a link and go check it out!
Til next time...-
